Northrop Grumman Corporation, a leader in global security, has made a contribution to the National Youth Science Foundation (NYSF) to  support the academic program of the 2017 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp).

The NYSCamp is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) enrichment honors program, challenging the top two science and mathematics students from every state in the United States and others from around the world for a month in the summer in the mountains of West Virginia. The NYSCamp was initiated by the State of West Virginia in 1963 and has honored more than five thousand students over its history. The NYSCamp is now operated as a public/private partnership between the NYSF and the State of West Virginia.

Researchers, practitioners, and professors supported by the Northrop Grumman grant will speak on a wide variety of STEM subjects that extend well beyond those found in a traditional high school curriculum; the academic program includes lectures, seminars, and hands-on directed studies. Through its broad program, participants are challenged to find innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to the world’s most difficult problems. Additionally, representatives of Northrop Grumman participate at the NYSCamp by presenting aspects of its CyberPatriot cybersecurity program for high school students.

“The National Youth Science Foundation greatly appreciates Northrop Grumman’s continuing support of the National Youth Science Camp’s innovative academic program,” Dr. Andrew Blackwood, executive director of the NYSF, said. “Partnerships with leading companies like Northrop Grumman insure that the NYSCamp remains relevant in today’s fast-changing world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.” Several current and former employees of Northrop Grumman alumni of the NYSCamp.

Northrop Grumman and the Northrop Grumman Foundation are committed to expanding and enhancing the pipeline of diverse, talented STEM students globally. In addition to the National Youth Science Foundation, they provide funding to sustainable STEM programs that span from preschool to high school and through collegiate levels, with a major emphasis on middle school students and teachers. In 2016, Northrop Grumman and the Northrop Grumman Foundation continued outreach efforts by contributing $19.2 million to diverse STEM-related groups such as the Air Force Association (CyberPatriot), the REC Foundation (VEX Robotics), National Science Teachers Association, and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.
