John P. Giroir, M.S.
In 1989, Mr. Giroir, an Eagle Scout, was selected as one of two delegates to represent the state of Louisiana to the National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp). For the next six summers, he served on the National Youth Science Camp “Staph”* from 1990-1995, in various positions. He also served on the staff of the Mountaineer Youth Science Camp in 1994 and 1995. After completing a comprehensive NYSCamp Alumni project, reaching out to 30 years of Alumni, he moved to West Virginia and was hired in 1993 by the National Youth Science Foundation. In 2000, he joined the YMCA of Kanawha Valley and served as a Program Director (5 years), Associate Executive (2 years), Interim President / CEO (6 months) and President / CEO (6 years). During that time he also served as an adjunct instructor at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and at West Virginia State University. In 2014, he returned to the National Youth Science Foundation to become the 12th Director of the National Youth Science Camp since its inception in 1963. Mr. Giroir holds a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia State University and Master of Science from West Virginia University. Mr. Giroir currently also serves as President-Elect to the National Youth Science Camp Alumni Association.
