National Youth Science Camp®The National Youth Science Foundation and Governor Joe Manchin III of the State of West Virginia are excited to announce the 2009 edition of the National Youth Science Camp. The 2009 NYSC will again be held at Camp Pocahontas in the Monongahela National Forest near the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in the eastern mountains of West Virginia. Delegates will arrive in Charleston, WV, the State's capital, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, and will depart on Saturday, July 25, 2009. Staph ApplicationsApplications for positions on the Staph of the 2009 National Youth Science Foundation programs are now available. The 2009 season will be busy, including sessions of the National Youth Science Camp and the West Virginia Governor's School for Mathematics and Science. Foundation Receives Three Major GrantsThe National Youth Science Foundation has received grants from NASA and the United States Department of State in support of the 2008 and 2009 editions of the National Youth Science Camp. Funding from NASA will enhance the NYSC academic program while the State Department grant permits international delegates to attend the NYSC. The Foundation has also received a grant from the Division of Science and Research of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to operate the 2009 Green Bank session of the WV Governor's School for Mathematics and Science. The Foundation has operated this program in a partnership with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory since 2005. |

Haywood "Woody" McCallum is Released from HospitalHaywood "Woody" McCallum (VA 1969), 25-year member of the NYSC Staph, President Emeritus of the NYSC Alumni Association, and Foundation trustee, who was shot during a robbery attempt, is now out of the hospital. Joseph M. Hutchison Amphitheater Fundraising Goal ReachedThe Foundation has reached its goal of raising $30,000 to establish the Joseph M. Hutchison Amphitheater on the future site of the National Youth Science Camp. The Hutchison Amphitheater is dedicated in memory of the Foundation's Chairman Emeritus Joseph M. Hutchison who served as the director of the NYSC for many years. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort to recognize Hutch's commitment and service to the Foundation and NYSC. |
Please Donate to the FoundationAs 2008 nears its end, please consider making a contribution to the National Youth Science Foundation. Contributions help support the continued operation of the National Youth Science Camp and allow the Foundation to offer programs of similar focus for different audiences such as the Youth Science Leadership Institute and to further develop the National Center for Youth Science Education. The Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization and donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Contributions to the Foundation can be dedicated to general operations, to a specific science education program or initiative, or to the Adler Endowment fund.
