The Earth from Space: An Overview of NASA Earth Science

As inhabitants of this relatively tiny planet, we often take for granted the generally hospitable environment in which we find ourselves. With the advent of satellites, new vistas of our world have opened up to us. To truly appreciate the Earth’s present ecosystems and climate and allow for accurate future predictions that include the impact of human activity, it is critical that we understand the interplay between the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, land, and cryosphere (snow and ice). In pursuit of this goal, NASA is the largest U.S. agency pursuing Earth observations and Earth system science. In this talk, we will provide an overview of historical and current NASA Earth satellite observations and science.
