2009 National Youth Science Camp - Lecture Series

Captain Michael Jabaley, USN

USN (Program Manager, VIRGINIA Class Submarine)

Science and Technology in the US Navy Submarine Force

Captain Jabaley will use his experience to discuss the application of science and technology in the US Navy Nuclear Submarine Force. Specifically, his lecture will cover: (1) his personal history as a high school graduate, including summer jobs, college studies, Navy recruiting experience, and Navy training (2) 22 year career operating nuclear powered submarines, including command of USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724), focusing on the advantages of nuclear power technology (3) current acquisition career in design, production, and support of VIRGINIA Class Submarines, the Navy’s newest attack submarine, focusing on advances in submarine design (4) discussion of the need for engineering graduates in the Navy and throughout high-technology industries.
