Youth Science Discovery Camps - $60,000 to $100,000A series of weeklong programs for teachers and students designed to focus on specific scientific studies. |
Youth Science Leadership Institute - $400,000 A multi-week program for about 100 students from around the world that focuses on concerns for the represented nations. |
Community Science Seminar - $5,000 Public-interest lectures and seminars that use the Foundation’s collection of diverse, energetic scientists as presenters. |
National Science Teaching Institute - $100,000 A multi-week program designed to introduce teachers and educational administrators to new science teaching techniques. |

Sponsorship of National Youth Science Camp Components
The National Youth Science Camp continues to provide unique annual opportunities for corporate and foundation support. Below are major components of the NYSC that are available for naming sponsorship. Please contact the Foundation to discuss other options (starting at $1,000) that recognize an organization’s scientific interests and ability to provide financial support.
Washington, DC Events - $60,000 Delegates experience extensive scientific, governmental, and cultural offerings during this three-day program. Each year, Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia honors the delegates with a luncheon to which he invites his colleagues in the Senate. Delegates visit many of the museums, historic buildings, and monuments. |
Computer Sciences Program - $30,000 An equipped and staffed center allows computer-adept delegates to further their knowledge while providing others opportunities to learn languages and techniques. Computers are used to conduct research, and usage is integrated into other program areas to support studies as diverse as historical geology, and geographic information systems. |
Lecture Series - $50,000 Lectures are presentations for the entire National Youth Science Camp audience. Each is usually a thought-provoking presentation of a scientist’s work or the relation of his/her work to society. There are about twenty-five lectures per camp. |
Physical Sciences Program - $30,000 Delegates explore many hands-on activities in chemistry, physics, astronomy, and the engineering fields, from designing bridges to withstand significant weight to sampling local water sources to measure pesticide levels. |
Directed Studies - $35,000 Visiting and resident authorities from diverse fields of study conduct multi-day, in-depth research investigations in laboratory and field studies. There are three multi-day blocks of Directed Studies with ten studies in each block. Examples of previous directed studies include medical ethics; immunological aspects of Chagas’ disease; mathematics and music; metals, alloys, and phase transitions; and astronomy at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. |
Natural Sciences Program - $30,000 Extensive natural history and environmental studies using the rich and complex environments of eastern West Virginia. Delegates participate in field laboratory studies that have included, among other topics, monitoring of hummingbird foraging, census taking of small animal populations, and Geographic Information Systems. |
Outdoor Adventure and Field Studies Program - $30,000 Physical challenges and adventure include three small-group team-building overnight trips into the Monongahela national forest, featuring backpacking, mountaineering, spelunking, mountain biking, kayaking and science field experiences led by resident specialists and practicing scientists. |
Delegate Sponsorship - $5,000 Covers all costs associated with the travel and attendance of one delegate to the National Youth Science Camp. |
Art and Music Program - $30,000 Provides delegates opportunities to express creativity in a variety of media using old and new technologies. Delegates may also join the chorus, wind ensemble, or jazz band. Performances by these groups are highlighted throughout the National Youth Science Camp program. |
