Welcome

Welcome to National Youth Science Foundation. Since 1983, the Foundation has been dedicated to supporting and operating innovative, youth science education programs. The Foundation's premiere program, the National Youth Science Camp, has served more than 4,500 students from across the United States at around the world since 1963. Through this and other education programs, the Foundation strives to achieve its mission to honor, sustain, and encourage youth interest in science. With the help of concerned individuals and organizations, the Foundation will continue to have a positive impact on the the quality and effectiveness of science leaders for generations.

Dr. Joel Herskowitz

Dr. Joel Herskowitz, NYSC 1963 MissouriJoel Herskowitz was a Missouri delegate to the NYSC in 1963.  He then came back on staph for two summers 1967 and 1974 as the camp counselor and camp physician. Joel attended Princeton majoring in music and then continuing his education at Chicago Medical School and graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1971. (more)

In the News June 21, 2009 - Jewel: Youth Science Camp

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Out in California, the San Jose Business Journal printed profiles of "40 under 40" -- bright young business stars of Silicon Valley. One was about Marissa Mayer, youthful vice president of the world's foremost online search engine. It said she "heads the search division of Google Inc., a global technology leader that made more than $21 billion in revenue last year." It said she was one of Google's first female engineers. How did she rise to science prominence? She glowingly praised West Virginia's National Youth Science Camp, where she was a high school delegate from Wisconsin in 1993. (more)

Dr. D. Holmes Morton, M.D.

Dr. D. Holmes Morton, M.D.D. Holmes Morton, M.D., a pediatrician originally from Southern West Virginia, has lectured at the NYCS for 21 years. Along with his wife, Caroline Smith, he founded the Clinic for Special Children, a facility specializing in serving children who have inherited disorders. Holmes has received numerous awards, including the 2006 MacArthur Foundation 'Genius' award as a country doctor and research physician, the Smithsonian Institution Award for Innovations in Technology (twice), and the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism (1993).     National Center for Youth Science Education The Foundation has developed a plan to construct a facility to house new programs for teachers and students. The proposed Center will be an energy-saving residential community capable of housing up to 250 students and an adequate number of staff members and visiting scientists. The Center will become a focal point for youth science education, one that will encourage and inspire youth to pursue scientific careers. (more)

    NYSC is a Member of the Townhall of the Americas With support from the United States Department of State, the National Youth Science Camp is a participating member of the Digital Town Hall of the Americas. Delegates, staff, and faculty of teh NYSC will be using this site to post information about the activities of this summer's program.
